Neotropical songbird migrants (spring and fall), wading birds and shorebirds along the spillway and river. Barred Owl can be found in the more mature lowland forests. Bewick's Wren, Black-crested Titmouse, and Painted Bunting are common along the main trail. This is also a site for House Finch, a scarce species in the region.
Open, maintained trails that are publicly accessible create birding opportunities in semi-open woodlands and dense forest with thick understory. A side trail offers views of the spillway and river and loops back to the main trail via a narrow footpath through dark.
