9800 Thixton Ln, Louisville, KY 40291
This is a woodland trail similar to other ones in the Jefferson Memorial Forest family of properties. Watch your step as the trail has roots, rocks, mud, and can be steep in places.
Mostly songbirds can be expected here. It's not a well-birded location so hopefully there will be springtime visits to document breeding birds.
This is a somewhat undeveloped parcel of the Jefferson Memorial Forest (JMF) properties. That is, no guardrails are present around the cliffs, so stay a safe distance away from the edge of the falls! Further, if the trails are wet, the clayey soil is slippery.
Visits are managed by JMF as follows, because there are only three parking spaces.
To request access: email forest@louisvilleky.gov with your name; preferred date to visit; your vehicle make and model; your license plate number, and the state that issued your plate.
You'll receive an email with the combination lock code. When you get to the driveway, stop at the gate (a wire cable with a padlock attached to a post), unlock the gate, enter and park carefully so you don't block the other spaces, and lock the gate behind you. When you leave, make sure the gate is locked securely with the code digits scrambled on the lock.
There is one trail from the parking lot that runs east. This trail is rather hilly and is at least moderate difficulty. Toward the end of the trail there is a small loop. Total trail length (trimmed for eBird purposes not to include backtrack distance) is 0.6 miles.
