Central Pond Reservoir

About this Location

Central Pond Reservoir can be viewed by both land and the water. The easiest way to view this reservoir by land is by following the Ten Mile River Greenway Bike Path from the trailhead at the Ann Rock Athletic Fields. The reservoir can be accessed by water from an unimproved access site on Newman Avenue in East Providence.

Central Pond originally provided hydropower to the Central Mill. You can still see the old dam and foundations at the west end of the pond, extending in an arc from Newman Avenue.

The Ten Mile River Greenway is 3 miles long and connects to the Ten Mile Reservoir, Slater Park, Central Pond, and the James Turner Reservoir. It is one of the few bike paths in Rhode Island that was not built along a former rail corridor meaning the path follows the natural contour of the land.
