Tips for Birding

This location is best birded in the winter months or early morning hours when fishing activity & tourist crowds are minimal.

Use of a spotting scope will greatly enhance birding efforts made here as birders scan the open waters of the harbor for gulls, terns, waterfowl, and other water dependent species.

Birds of Interest

Like so many of the birding hotspots scattered throughout Cape Cod, an extensive list of seafaring bird species are possible here at any time of the year! However, some of the most enjoyable birding is likely to occur during the winter months when alcids, gulls, loons, seaducks can be spotted closer to the docks & boat piers. At this time, various gull and waterfowl species are also likely to frequent the harbor in greater numbers than what would be expected in the summer months.

Expected Winter Season Species:
Long-tailed Duck, Scoters (All 3 Species), Scaup (Greater & Lesser), Red-breasted Mergansers, Loons (Common & Red-throated), Bufflehead, Herring, Ring-billed, and Great Black-backed Gulls.
