Birding the Appalachian Trail in Massachusetts

Saddleball in Mount Greylock State Reservation has scenic views of the surrounding area, as well as opportunities for hiking, camping, snowshoeing, and birdwatching. The Appalachian Trail passes through Saddleball, connecting it to Mount Greylock and other peaks along the southern ridge of the range.

At 3,491 feet, Mount Greylock is the highest point in Massachusetts. From its peak on a clear day, you can see as far as 90 miles away. No matter when you visit, there’s plenty to do and see.

Auto Roads to the summit of Mount Greylock are open for the spring, summer, and fall seasons from May 22 to Oct. 31.
