Tips for Birding

With such a vast view of the Cape Cod bay and Plymouth coastline, a spotting scope can be very helpful to appreciate all the birds that can be seen residing or migrating passed this location. If chasing a particular bird, be sure to note the tides when you visit. Different tides can impact the presence and positioning of some species (especially in reference to the cliffs) at this hotspot. For example, Harlequin Ducks tend to be more reliable at higher tides.

Birds of Interest

In the summer time, look for Pelagic birds on the Cape Cod bay, especially when there are eastern winds. In the winter months, this can be a reliable spot for Harlequin Ducks, Scoters, Razorbills and other Alcids, Rock Sandpipers, and more.

About this Location

The elevated cliffs at Manomet Point provides an excellent view of the Cape Cod Bay and Plymouth coastline. On days with excellent visibility, one can up to 20 miles (approximately 40 kilometers) out into the bay and even make out the towns of Wellfleet, Truro, and Provincetown on the outer peninsula of Cape Cod on the other side of the bay. There is a small parking lot where one can get out and deploy a spotting scope, or view the birds closer to the cliff comfortably from within a car. With it's large cliffs and vast view of the Cape Cod bay, Manomet Point provides excellent birding opportunities for a wide variety of bird taxa.
