Permian Basin East Loop - Great Texas Birding Trail - Far West Texas Official WebsiteFrom the parking area to the wetlands area one walks through West Texas scrub lands with the resulting woodland species. If you arrive in the morning, consider first viewing the water treatment ponds from SE 1001. All of the ponds including the churning pool at the water treatment plant can be viewed well with the eastern sun behind you. A scope is needed to see the western edge of the ponds near the trail.
All waterfowl including Wood Duck, Common Gallinule, rails, and marsh passerines including Marsh Wren, Common Yellowthroat, Swamp and Song Sparrow. Wooded and brush passerines plus woodpeckers. Mississippi Kite nest in area.
Restrooms are across the street at the sports complex. It might be better if the water treatment plant was included in the name of this spot. Th
