Howe Reservoir covers an area of about 100 acres and has a maximum depth of 13 feet. The reservoir can be accessed from a large dirt parking area on NH-101, where kayaks can be launched and then paddled under a small bridge to reach the main part of the water. The reservoir is surrounded by forested hills and has few houses along its shore.
