Tips for Birding

Although access seems to be limited, there is a camping area with direct access to the lake where you can walk to the shore with a scope to the left of the “No Public Access to the dam or spillway” sign, the road does not have a name.  It’s a large lake and a scope is helpful for distant birds, but many can be close.  While the dam road is not accessible, you can view the water beneath the dam from the accessible shore, along with a shallow inlet.

Birds of Interest

Winter ducks and water birds, some scrub habitat surrounding the lake on the shore.

About this Location

The only access seems to be from the south at the eBird hotspot marked at the public boat ramp, although there is not actually a boat ramp.  In addition to the south shore, there is a small RV park on the road towards the lake where the owner seems to be okay with birders driving in to look at the lake, but the views are not better from there, call the number on the entry sign to ask for permission. Most of the access on the west side of the lake north of the hotspot area is private property and not accessible.
