Tips for Birding

From the North parking area walk South and turn West across the bridge. Continue along the lake which turns west until you reach the main road (Adam’s Darry Parkway), turn around and return to the North parking area. The return walk is often better than the first half, it is quieter than waking around the lake. It is a little more distance, about 3 miles and if you are birding 1.5 to 3 hours.

  • The north side of the lake is best for birding. Take your time. Walk the short side paths. Take the opportunity look across the lake. Sit quietly listen when you can. Watch the birds flying across the lake for nesting species. There a bench in an open area, about half way across the North side, where I sit to see Prothonotary Warbler, Green Heron and Solitary Sandpiper.
  • Bird the marsh area when you cross it look for Sora Rail, Belted Kingfisher and sandpipers.
  • Walk up the hill on the west side of the crossing to look for thrush and migrant species.
