Birds of Interest

During migration this park can be a good place to find migratory warblers. During the summer months look for Ospreys, Great-Blue Herons, Black-crowned Nigh Herons, and Green Herons by the ponds. In the winter months, this park can be a good place to occasionally find Bald Eagles.

About this Location

The Roger Williams Park is a vast urban greenspace a few miles south of Downtown Providence. The park consists of forested areas, several ponds, gardens, sculptures, and a few athletic fields. Several RIPTA (Rhode Island Public Transit Authority) bus lines have stops within walking distance of the park (see RIPTA website for more information). The park itself does not require an access fee, however, the Roger Williams Zoo (enclosed within the park) does require a fee for entry. There are several parking lots throughout the park, the largest is the parking lot for the zoo which also contains an Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station. None of the parking lots require a fee, however, the parking lot for the zoo remains gated until the zoo opens (8 or 9 am most days) and parking lots can be closed off for occasional special events. Several outhouse restrooms are available throughout the park, especially by the athletic fields during the summer months.
