There are several areas that are especially good for birding at this cemetery. By the entrance, there is a bird feeder which can be especially active in the winter months when other food sources are limited. Several of the paths at this cemetery loop near the Pocasset River; the river itself can be a hotspot for waterfowl, especially in the winter (a spotting scope can be helpful for viewing) and the shrubby habitat around the river can be very productive for passerines.
In the winter months, the wetlands of the Pocasset River can be very plentiful with waterfowl when ice free. Large flocks of Juncos and other Sparrow species can often be found gritting in the pathways of this cemetery throughout the winter.
Pocasset Cemetery can be accessed daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm via a bridge that crosses the Pocasset River on Dyer Avenue. Outside of these hours, the cemetery is gated shut. The cemetery can be reached by car, walking, or RIPTA bus services which have stops nearby. There is a series of paved and unpaved paths that go throughout the cemetery. While the paved paths are wheelchair friendly, the unpaved paths are most likely not wheelchair accessible. In the winter months these paths can be very icy, visitors should plan accordingly. While birders are welcome to visit the property, be respectful of the fact that this is an active cemetery and practice appropriate ettiquete.
