Indian Creek Greenway

Kansas City, Missouri 64131

Tips for Birding

The park is an urban location, with shopping centers, apartment buildings, and single-family homes adjacent. Habitats are forested riparian and open lands under a transmission line. There is some waterfowl use of the creek.

About this Location

Indian Creek Greenway Park extends from the Kansas State Line east to the Blue River. The park includes 119 acres of city-owned land. A three-mile paved bicycle-hiking trail follows Indian Creek through the park. Public restrooms are available from 10 am to 4 pm daily (12 noon to 4 pm Sunday) at the Trailside Center (99th Street at Holmes Road) adjacent to the trail. Other restrooms are available adjacent to the trail at numerous restaurants and convenience stores along 103rd Street, Wornall Road, and Holmes Road.

Notable Trails

The Indian Creek Greenway Trail passes a small waterfall at Watts Mill Historic Site (1830) adjacent to 103rd Street. Between the state line and Wornall Road, the trail is more urban, with shopping centers near where the trail passes under 103rd Street, Wornall Road, and Holmes Road. East of Holmes Road and the Trailside Center, the trail passes more forested areas. Near the Blue River, the trail is between Indian Creek and a rocky forested bluff.
