Eiði--lake

Eiði--lake

About this Location

Small lake just beside the village Eiði. One of the best birding sites in the region, probably because of the many types of environments that meets here, in addition that Sundini (the sound between Eysturoy and Streymoy) acts as a funnel for migration birds, and this is a last stop for north-migrating birds before the open ocean (or the first stop for birds migrating the other way).

Cultivated fields, especially on the western side of the lake. A small path goes around the lake (not suitable for wheel chair). Only a few meters of rocky shore separates the lake from the ocean, and thus many birds easily cross back and forth, especially gulls, Black-legged Kittiwakes and Arctic Tern.

Ducks and divers may show up with surprises, but the lake is just big enough so the most interesting birds are always on the other side of the lake.

Grocery shop in the village.

Parking by the football field (drive down by the church) when matches are not played. Restroom close to the church, and otherwise by the junction just before driving into the village.
