Official WebsiteGile Mountain Trail is a hiking and mountain bike trail that leads to beautiful views in all directions on the summit of Gile Mountain for those willing to climb to an observation platform on the summit fire tower. The trail connects Turnpike Road with the Blue Ribbon Trail. Measured from the trailhead, a multi-use trail leads toward a powerline (0.2 mi.), where the bicycle trail bears left and the hiking trail bears right. The two trails intertwine on their ascent of the mountain. After crossing the powerline right of way, the hike ascends a sequence of granite steps to the summit tower (0.7 mi.). The bicycle path follows more frequent switchbacks at a lesser grade to the Blue Ribbon Trail (0.8 mi.).
Length: 0.7 miles (hiking), 0.8 miles (cycling)
Gile Mountain trailhead is 5.7 miles from the Norwich Inn, via north on Main Street (0.5 mi.), turning left on Turnpike Road (5.2 mi.) to the trailhead on left. If the parking lot is full, wait for a space. Consider carpooling from the Huntley Meadow Park-and-Ride, when possible, because parking is limited at the trailhead. Gile Mountain parking has room for about five vehicles, parked face-in. Vehicles parked on the road are subject to ticketing.
The TrailFinder website has a description and map of a hike at Gile Mountain.
