Humarock Beach

About this Location

Humarock Beach is a Scituate town beach, accessible through Marshfield. Sandy in the summer, rocky in the winter, Humarock is a barrier beach, 3 miles in length. On one side is the Atlantic Ocean, and on the other side is the South River. There is a launch ramp in the town parking lot, but a Scituate beach sticker is required to park there, and it requires a 250-foot portage over sand and cobble.

No trails, but the 3-mile-long beach offers ample terrain for walking. Head north and you can walk to Fourth Cliff, where there’s a view of the river mouth. Head south and you’ll eventually cross the town line in the Marshfield at Rexhame Beach.

The South River, like the North River, is a beautiful tidal estuary where wildlife abounds! Paddling or boating on this estuary allows you to go shellfishing, fishing, or just exploring. Downstream there are salt marshes and numerous creeks, host to egrets and blue herons. You might even see a bald eagle! Soft shell clams, better known as “steamers,” hardshell clams, as well as razor clams can be found in the tidal flats and can be harvested with a permit between November 1 and May 31.
