Park in Lot 38 north of the fields and scan them for birds. A scope is helpful. Parking passes can be purchased at meters or using an app.
It is generally not productive (or polite) to scope fields while they're being actively used for soccer games. The fields tend to be busiest on weekends, especially Saturdays, and are less busy at dawn or dusk.
Geese in winter - Snow, Ross's, Cackling, Canada, and Greater White-fronted Geese have all used this site.
Also look for other birds associated with large expanses of short grass or open soil - whimbrel, curlew, pipits, longspurs, etc.
Storke Field contains six soccer fields managed and used by the University of California, Santa Barbara. The fields are often used for student soccer games, for practice, and for informal pickup games.
