During spring and fall migration, try parking in Lot #3 and walking along the beach in either direction. Scan from the top of the sand dune for distant birds on the Lake and always check the perimeter of the parking lot for songbirds. From November through April, the access road is closed and only beach Lot #9 is available. You can still walk out to the lake shore to scan for waterfowl. Several songbird species will be present around the parking lot and winter finches are possible.
Ducks, geese, gulls, loons, shorebirds, raptors and songbirds. Red-throated loons in October and December. Both crossbills, redpolls, Evening Grosbeak, Pine Siskin and Bohemian Waxwing may be found at Lot #9 from October through February. Prairie Warbler may be found near the beach.
There are 9 separate parking areas providing access to the beach. Dogs are allowed on the beach at Lot #1. The beach will be busy in June, July and August. When the road is closed from November through April, only Lot #9 can be accessed by vehicle. The road around this end of the Park is one way only.
