Tips for Birding

Walk the entire loop while watching and listening for songbirds. Spring migration will provide a more diverse species mix. Check for waterfowl at the viewing platform.

Birds of Interest

Songbirds, woodpecker species and waterfowl. Red-headed Woodpecker may be found along this trail and occasionally one will try to stay for the winter.

About this Location

The Heritage Trail passes through oak savanna forest and the trail extension provides access to a viewing platform at the Old Ausable Channel. This trail is open and accessible throughout the entire year although the trail is not maintained in the winter. The trail is wheel chair accessible from May through September.
