Tips for Birding

This is a mostly south-facing view where one may look down into the Rio Grande River valley as well as  up- and downriver.

Follow the steps behind the pavilion, across the lower terrace, then through the break in the rock wall and out to the point of land looking over the river.

It is possible to stay on a higher level on the point of land but one may also continue down to lower levels on that point.

By going to a lower level, the road noise might be reduced to provide better chances for birding by ear.

A scope would be very helpful at this location.

Because this is a south facing viewpoint, the winter sun angle might be a bit of an issue. Consider this when planning your visit to this spot.

About this Location

This is a roadside picnic area with great views of the Rio Grande River and vantage points to get closer to the river for overlook views.

Notable Trails

There is a trail that leads from the pavilion, down the steps and out to the tip of the land that looks over the Rio Grande River.

This trail is strictly a foot path and is not suitable for wheelchairs or scooters.
