John's Mountain Wildlife Management Area is located in Walker, Whitfield, Gordon and Floyd counties. This 23,356-acre property offers hunting opportunities for deer, bear, turkey and small game. No ATVs are allowed on the property.
There is no fee to access land. However license required to hunt or fish and there are fees associated with use of the Pocket Campground area and the Chestnut Mountain Shooting Range.
The US Forest Service has switched to a cashless payment system. You will have to download the recreation.gov app to set up an account and pay online to use the facilities. Please note that proof of payment has to be shown at arrival. Cell service can be poor at the campsites so take a screenshot or print off with you.
Amenities at the WMA include bike trails, shooting range, equestrian trails, hiking trails, nature trails, picnic shelters, trout streams, and primitive campsites.
Restrooms are available at Keown Falls trailhead and the Pocket Campground.
