Scherer Lake is one of seven hotspots that have been recognized on Longview Lake Park, managed by Jackson County Parks and Recreation. A map of the park can be found in the Longview Lake hotspot description. Scherer Lake is shown between the motor campground and Scherer Parkway but not labeled. This drained lake is now a wetland area that attracts waterfowl during wet periods. The north side is visible from Longview Campground. The south side can be reached from an unmarked gravel pullout on SW Scherer Parkway in Lee's Summit, 0.3 miles west of SW Sampson Road. A short trail from the pullout to the former lake shore is not marked and not maintained.
An unmaintained trail descends 150 feet from a pullout on Scherer Parkway to the former lake shore.
