From November through April when most of the Park roads are closed, birds will be scarce and scattered. Try stopping wherever a vehicle can be safely parked and look/listen for birds. This may be the most appropriate time to use the "general location" hotspot in the Pinery.
In the winter period, watch for Tufted Titmouse, both nuthatches and woodpecker species. Winter finches may be present during eruption years. Both waxwing species may be present as well.
The Pinery is the largest Provincial Park in southwestern Ontario. The Park is dominated by globally rare oak savanna ecosystem. Almost 10 km of freshwater coastal dunes are protected within the Park. The Pinery is open for camping and day use activities throughout the year; however, the majority of the Park is closed to vehicle traffic from November through April. Closed roads become cross-country ski trails when winter conditions permit.
