Tips for Birding

Birders have been granted visitation privileges because the owners are interested to know about birds found here. This is a working equestrian facility, and it's imperative we respect the rules to continue accessing the property.

There is a long entrance road off Rose Island Road, on which one can view a small farm pond (right) and several large horse paddocks. Do not park on this road, or pull off the road to scope the fields. We have been asked to park near the small gazebo, which is located on the right, just past the first intersection. From there you can walk back on the main road to scope.

Be cautious around the horses and give them a wide berth, especially if they are being ridden. Lots of young people are being trained to ride here, and the risk of injuring someone by spooking the horses is high. Riders and horses always have right of way.

Don't feed the horses. Many are on special diets and their owners are relying on the Stables to protect their animals. Don't assume that the carrots you brought are fine for the horses.

Birds of Interest

This property has had a number of interesting birds, such as Cackling, Ross's, and Greater White-fronted Geese. A Glossy Ibis was here a few years back, too. Sometimes the pond on the entrance road and the surrounding fields can get flooded, at which time lots of dabbling ducks gather to feed.

About this Location

This is a working equestrian farm; be careful, drive slowly, and keep a distance from the horses, especially if riders are present.
