Tips for Birding

good for a quick check any day of the week by driving down a canal bank off of Rd 16 that spits the two pond complexes. You can drive around all the ponds but stay away from the buildings and dog pound on the north end while birding. No fences or check-in required, but we've never actually talked with staff about birding there so be discreet.

Birds of Interest

The county's only record of brown pelican in August one year. Also common terns and possibly other shorebirds when a pond is low. When a pond is flooded with vegetation in it there have been many solitary sandpipers over the years in late summer migration. Not known for gulls.

About this Location

The neighborhoods south and west of the complex have yellow-billed magpies
