About this Location

Hidden Valley Park includes 195 acres managed by the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department. The area north of Russell Road is open with scattered forest patches. The area to the south of Russell Road is forested with oaks, maples, basswood, and hickory with pawpaw in the understory. The area is known for ferns including Goldie's fern. The parking lot is reached by taking the Parvin Road exit from northbound I-435 or the NE 48th Street exit from southbound I-435. After exiting, southbound travelers should take the frontage road south to Parvin Road. From Parvin Road, head west for 0.5 miles to NE Bennington Avenue, then left (south) on NE Bennington Road for 0.3 miles to NE Russell Road. Turn right (west) on Russell Road to the parking lot in 0.2 miles on the north side of the road. At the parking lot is a paved trail that is handicapped accessible, a picnic shelter, and restrooms. Walk south and cross Russell Road to reach the Hidden Valley trail system, used by mountain bikers and hikers.  

Notable Trails

The Hidden Valley Trail system winds through deep ravines in the loess hills on the north side of the Missouri River; 82 acres is designated as Hidden Valley State Natural Area. A map of the trails south of Russell Road is available at HVP_Map_2020_light (urbantrailco.com)
