Peterborough--Cumberland Parkway Trail

Peterborough--Cumberland Parkway Trail

Tips for Birding

Walk all or a portion of this trail earlier in the morning.

Birds of Interest

This hotspot is probably best during migration when a variety of species may be encountered. A Carolina Wren was resident along this section of trail in late winter and early spring 2002.

About this Location

Located along the former Parkway right-of-way this hotspot is part of the Parkway Trail extending for a kilometre between Cumberland Ave in the east to Hilliard Street in the west. The vegetation along the trail is a mix of landscape plantings, second growth deciduous trees, shrub thickets and grape tangles. The gravel shoulder of Cumberland Avenue at the east end of the trail is wide enough to accommodate a few vehicles, but parking at the Hilliard Street end is problematic as there is no street parking. It may be possible to park in the parking lot of St. Paul Catholic Elementary School on weekends and holidays.

Notable Trails

The Parkway trail is a wide, paved path along its entire length making for easy walking or cycling. It is maintained in winter.
