The Ackerman Nature Preserve has recently (March 2024) received some new additions including a small parking lot at the base of the communications tower and two new bird blinds open to the public. There is no fee to use the preserve. The sign for the preserve is located on the corner of Salem Avenue Extension and Blackburn Drive. This is a great little wetland and an excellent location to observe migratory waterfowl. As of March 2024 more than 160 species of birds have been recorded at the preserve.
