About this Location

Directions: From Plattsburg, go east 3 miles on Hwy. 116, north on Hwy. 33 for two miles, then east on 280 Street 0.5 miles to the entrance.

This is a gem of a site. The easily accessible varied habitat promises good birding potential any season. This area was developed by the Clinton County Sportsmen’s Club in the 1950s and donated to MDC in 1999. It is well-designed for easy access to small lakes, forest/woods (10 acres), and grassland (83 acres). The internal roads provide good viewing angles from cars for birders with limited walking ability. The six small impoundments (1.8 to 5.1 acres) and the .9 acre Wood Duck Slough can all be birded on foot or from a car. Facilities include an outdoor classroom, 8 parking lots, and a one-quarter mile interpretive hiking trail along the Little Platte River.
