Located on the Lockwood--San Ardo Road, which is a wide dirt road through hilly chaparral habitat, Williams Hill has a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) campground and minimal facilities. Most campers will be self-contained in trailers or recreational vehicles. Target shooters are permitted.
Few birders have visited here, but some who did found chaparral birds to be quite common at roadside in the maze of dirt roads below the Hill itself.
California Quail, California Thrasher, Wrentit, and Bell's Sparrow are resident, and present in good numbers.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) advertises William Hill this way: "Located in southern Monterey County, and standing over 2,700 feet in elevation, Williams Hill offers great views of the surrounding Salinas Valley. Pine trees, chamise, scrub oak, and impressive shale formations characterize the hilly terrain." There is a campground.
