Tips for Birding

This hotspot includes both the Spring River Zoo and the adjacent park, which together comprise about 36 acres. There is no fee to use the five-and-a-half-acre wooded, turf-covered park, where (as at the zoo) there are restrooms.

This is the easternmost of 9 hotspots located along the Spring River Parkway, a jogging and biking trail following the Spring River channel southeast-northwest through Roswell.  “River” is a somewhat aspirational term for what in wet times barely has water flowing;  casual observers might describe it as a rock-and-concrete-lined ditch, particularly where it passes through this hotspot.  Almost 13 acres of the zoo lie on the south side of the parkway and, as of fall 2022, are not publicly accessible.  However, the pond there, which typically does have enough water to attract waterfowl, may be glassed from the zoo or from Atkinson Street.
