Tips for Birding

Roll down your windows, drive slowly, and stop when you hear birds. They can be anywhere along the road. All land along the road is private—do not leave the roadside!  There is a sign for “Bundic Cemetery,” but I have yet to find the cemetery!  There is a bridge over a creek perhaps a mile west of SR 39. This used to be better when it was a one-lane wooden bridge and the creek came right up to it. When that fell in, they replaced it with a four-lane cement bridge, and the creek is farther back, so the birds don’t respond as well, but it’s still water, and there are still birds. You can turn south on FM 2865 (just west of the big water tanks on the north side) to return to US 190/21, or you can continue on Bundic and wind your way north on back roads until you hit something your GPS will recognize.

Birds of Interest

Migrants; sparrows in winter.
