Bennett Meadows Wildlife Management Area has a diverse variety of habitats. Near the parking lot, there are a lot of dense shrubs that create good habitat for sparrows, American Woodcock, and other early successional species. The grassland fields can attract horned larks in the winter. There are some wetlands and forests by the Bennet Brook which can be good for breeding warblers and Swamp Sparrows.
This property is owned by First Light Power Resources and cooperatively managed with the Massachusetts Division of Fish and Wildlife (DFW). It abuts the west side of the Connecticut River and consists of open fields used for crops such as hay and corn. Bennett Brook, a small stream along the west side of the property, flows through beaver-created shrub swamps where it eventually empties into the Connecticut River. On the western slopes is a ridge of upland forest containing oak and hickories with lower slopes near the river consisting of floodplain forest trees such as basswood and silver maple.
The parking area is located off ME-10 west of Northfield Center and consists of an unmaintained dirt parking lot that can hold around 10 vehicles. Parking lots are not maintained in winter.
This location has walking paths, however, there are no official "trails" with designated names. There is one noteworthy unofficial "side trail" near the parking lot that will bring you close to the Connecticut River.
