As you drive down 361 look for the post office. The four car parking lot is across the highway from it. It can be a bit tricky to get in and out of the parking lot if there is traffic. Binoculars are a must as the wetlands cover about a mile each way. A scope would be even better.
In times of drought it does become smaller and occasionally dries totally up.
During the winter there are hundreds of shorebirds and waders here. Some of the ones you see most often are Herons, Egrets, White Ibis, Roseate Spoonbills, Neotropic Cormorants, Ospreys, Laughing Gulls, Dowitchers, Sandpipers and Avocets.
Built by Texas Department of Transportation and deeded to the City of Port Aransas, the SH 361 Wetland Park is about one-half mile south of Avenue G, across the street from the US Post Office. It has a raised, wheelchair accessible, boardwalk that leads to a gazebo overlooking the tidal flats, home to many wading and shorebirds. There is a bench to sit on in the gazebo.
