Tips for Birding

This is a pond maintained for fishing, but fishing is restricted. It is unclear whether access to just bird is limited (sometimes there is a closed sign and other times not). This is Army-managed land, so be ready to depart if asked to do so. Access is via the paved Del Venturi Road, and then a side turn on a dirt loop to a view of the pond.

Birds of Interest

If lucky, Wood Duck. Common Gallinule, or Belted Kingfisher. Recently, there have been (apparently breeding) Great-tailed Grackles (1-2 pairs), and in 2021-2022 there was a summer breeding colony of Tricolored Blackbird in the reeds across the pond from the access roads. Otherwise, a nice selection oak woodland species in habitat that includes Gray Pines.
