The entrance to this park is the second driveway (coming from the frontage road) on Upper Cibolo Creek Road. The first driveway is now exit only.
Wind around the entrance road to the T intersection, At this juncture, you may either turn left towards the boat ramp, boat parking, and restroom facilities or right towards the "additional parking" area and the upper parts of the lake that are accessible from the park.
At the boat ramp there are elevated points from which to scan the lake, looking left (east) towards the dam and deeper part of the lake or right (west) towards the upper and shallower reaches of the lake.
It may be worth walking along the top of the levee to see what birds one can scare up out of the grassy and rocky area.
Heading back towards the entrance go straight at the stop sign to reach the "additional park" area and more heavily wooded part of the park. If possible (so as not to block traffic) drive the western fence line slowly looking for sparrows and other grassland/prairie birds. Scan the lake here again, especially looking west to the parts of the lake that are not accessible from the park. Walk the woodlands (part of the Disc Golf Course) to see what woodland species might be found.
Water birds in the winter time. American Pipits were found in the low area at the end of the road by the restrooms in January, 2024.
Say's Phoebe and Vermilion Flycatchers were being reported during the winter of 2024.
