The Northern Research Station is a part of the research and development branch of the US Department of Agriculture Forest Service. Their area of focus is understanding all the aspects of forests and the landscapes they create.

They conduct research across a large and diverse region, encompassing social, biological, and physical aspects of forests. A key theme in their research is how forests recover from disturbances like disease outbreaks, extreme weather events, and fires.

The Science Laboratory is on Main Road (CR-213) near the Olentangy River.
