Barnstable Clean Water Coalition webpageThe Barnstable Clean Water Coalition (BCWC) is a nonprofit organization that works to protect and restore the water quality of Cape Cod. One of the projects that BCWC supports is the restoration of cranberry bogs, which are wetlands that have been used for cranberry cultivation for centuries. Cranberry bogs can provide many benefits for the environment, such as wildlife habitat, carbon sequestration, flood control, and groundwater recharge. However, they also require intensive management and inputs, such as water, fertilizer, and pesticides, which can have negative impacts on the water quality and ecosystems of the surrounding areas. BCWC partners with local cranberry growers, landowners, and conservation groups to implement best management practices and innovative solutions that can reduce the environmental footprint of cranberry farming and enhance the ecological functions of cranberry bogs.
This hotspot is a part of the Barnstable Clean Water Coalition cranberry bog monitoring project.
