Strictly road birding around the plant. Some habitat changes with tree farms moving into the area. Still extended road birding into the Atherton Bottoms makes this area key to unusual species in the winter. Gravel roads to the water plant are essential for Longspurs, Horned Larks, and sparrow species. Look for snow covered fields with exposed gravel roads. The sewer plant attracts gulls and blackbird species. Spring birding yields Blackbirds, sparrows, & prairie species, thrushes, doves, a few shorebirds & warblers.
Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, longspurs, Western & Eastern Meadowlarks, Blue Grosbeak, sparrows, eagles, hawks--sub species of Red-tailed Hawk, Swainson's & Northern Rough-legged, Eastern & Western Flycatcher, Eurasian Collared Dove, & an occasional pipit.
This area is not hard to bird from the roadways. Vegetation around the plant and settling ponds yields a surprising variety of species.
