About this Location

Salineno (pronounced Sal-a-nain-yo) is a small community downriver from Falcon Dam and 9 miles up river (west) from the city of Roma, Texas.

It is a little desert town of about 300 people. The main street runs past the church and the village square and right down to the river, 100 feet from Mexico.

For many years, the little tract of wooded land was owned and maintained by Pat and Gail DeWind who then sold it to the Valley Land Fund, a non-profit that protects over 11,000 acres of land up and down the Rio Grande Valley.

Volunteers have maintained the feeders each winter, relying on donations from birders and others.

Donations to help pay for bird seed are much appreciated.

Notable Trails

There's a short walk from the gate to the feeders. That walk is flat and level made of hard packed dirt and gravel which might make it suitable for wheelchairs or scooters.
