Camp Meade is a historic military camp located in Middlesex. It was established in 1898 as a training site for the Vermont National Guard during the Spanish-American War. The camp was named after Major General George Meade, who commanded the Union Army at the Battle of Gettysburg. Camp Meade served as a mobilization center for several wars, including World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. It also hosted various civilian activities, such as summer camps, concerts, and festivals. Today, Camp Meade is a cultural and recreational destination that offers a museum, a café, a bookstore, and a sculpture park.
