These are wetlands on private property. There are wetlands on both sides of the highway.
Normally, you can expect a vehicle to pass every three to five minutes. Expect them to be driving at highway speeds.
The shoulders are wide enough to park.
The highway crosses a bridge at this point with metal girders on the shoulders. Park on the shoulder on one side of a bridge girder for protection from passing vehicles. You will be safer birding if you stand behind a girder.
You can continue south just past the marsh area where you will find a river bottom of large trees including pecan. It might be possible to pull into an entrance gate area for a few short minutes to watch, look and listen for woodland species such as Pileated Woodpecker.
