At the confluence of Broad Brook and the White River, the 10-acre Broad Brook Access site packs a lot into a relatively small area, upland forest, nearly 2,000 feet of shoreland, and vibrant wetlands,  providing habitats for a range of plants and wildlife. The riverbank is lined with mature floodplain trees and native shrubs that help hold soil in place, and when flood waters are high, areas of the site flood. Together, the plants and floodplain help keep extra sand and silt from flowing into the White River, decrease damage to downstream roads, homes, and businesses, and help keep water clean for fish, wildlife, and communities downstream.

In 2015, this 10-acre site was listed for sale, and its future was nearly certain to be developed for houses, cutting off public access to the river. Vermont River Conservancy worked with the White River Partnership and Vermont Housing and Conservation Board to secure a different future, conservation, and public river access. Today, the site is owned by the town of Sharon, and a conservation easement is held by Vermont River Conservancy and Vermont Housing and Conservation Board.

Take I-89 Exit 2 for VT-132 toward VT-14/Sharon/South Royalton. Turn left onto VT-132 West. After 0.2 miles, turn right onto VT-14 North. After 0.3 miles, turn left onto River Road. Turn right after the bridge to stay on River Road. After one mile, the parcel will be on the right. A parking pull-off is located just beyond the Broad Brook Cemetery.
