Cedar Lake, Texas 77422
San Bernard NWR Official WebsiteIn the Spring and Fall the trail can be very good for neotropical migrants. Barred Owls breed here and if you are the first one in for the day you can often find a roosting Barred Owl. Painted Buntings breed in the woods and can often be found singing in the spring and early summer. The woods are good for wintering passerines.
Barred Owl, Painted Bunting
The trail consists of a short series of boardwalks along Cocklebur Slough through Cedar Elm, Hackberry, and Live Oaks. An extension of the boardwalk at the south end crosses the slough into the Wolfweed Wetlands. Mosquitoes can be fierce here in all seasons and repellant and long-sleeves are a very good idea.
