About this Location

Bosque Redondo Park is a city park located off Realwind Drive in Fort Sumner adjacent to the Pecos River. It is adjacent to the Bosque Redondo Memorial, a historic site that commemorates the tragic history of the Navajo and Mescalero Apache people who were forcibly relocated and interned there by the U.S. Army from 1863 to 1868. The park offers free camping, fishing, picnic tables, fire rings, and a playground. It is also close to the grave and historical marker of Billy the Kid, a notorious outlaw who was killed in Fort Sumner in 1881.
