This pine-laden Hotspot consists of the neighborhoods east of Highway 68 to Skyline Road, south of Huckleberry Hill Nature Preserve and Monterey Veterans Park south to about Shepherd's Knoll. From a birder’s perspective, it is meant to be a Hotspot confined to the Monterey Pine forest along this ridge of the Monterey Peninsula, within the City of Monterey. Over the years these neighborhoods have been good during incursions of Red-breasted Nuthatch or Red Crossbill, and at least once (mid-October 2023) a small group of 3 Clark's Nutcrackers.
Other than the years with incursions of Red-breasted Nuthatch or Red Crossbill, the resident birds of the Monterey Pine forest are readily found by walking the neighborhood streets that branch off of Skyline Road (that road is busy with traffic with few pull-outs). These include Band-tailed Pigeon, Hairy Woodpecker, Steller's Jay, Pygmy Nuthatch, Brown Creeper, and Dark-eyed (Oregon) Junco.
Essentially all the land within this Hotspot is privately owned single-family homes and some apartment complexes; the public access is walking the streets with due care. The streets are hilly and windy, and there are many cul-de-sacs.
