Tips for Birding

The north side of the river is usually good for sparrows in the winter. Often one can find Fox, LeConte's, White-crowned & White-throated Sparrows there as well as the more common species.

The trail on the south side is a more wooded hike and provides better chance for songbirds, and owls as well as sparrows.

Near where the trail emerges from the canopy, take a right and follow the trail through another area of brushy understory vegetation and large trees along a revine until it emerges from the canopy and make another right.

Follow this back along the trail to the starting point at the campground.

In winter this edge is usually inhabited by large numbers of Vesper, Savannah, White-crowned &  Lincoln's Sparrows.

You can also frequently find American Kestrel and other hawks hunting the open field
