Although some waterfowl is nearly always present at this site, the greatest diversity and abundance occur from March through mid-April. Satisfactory views of some waterfowl may be had with binoculars, but the larger congregations are often at some distance and so a spotting scope is recommended.
Asphodel-Norwood 6th Line S is a dead end/right-of-way that offers good views of the east end of Rice Lake near its confluence with the Trent River. It is a good spot for lingering waterfowl in winter and migrants in early spring. Dependent on winter snow accumulations, there may be a sizeable windrow left by the township plow at the end the 6th Line, making snow boots a benefit. In winter it may be possible to turn around by backing into Varga Lane or into the driveway of the nearest seasonal residence (#1212), but otherwise back up all the way to the River Rd. Note that aside from the right-of-way all land on either side of the road is private and should not be entered.
