The property consists of 27.2 acres of former farmland which was donated to Southeast Missouri State University in 2008.  It is being jointly managed by the University, the USDA, and the Missouri Department of Conservation with the goal of restoring it as hardwood swamp forest. 

Mowed trails on higher ground are maintained for walking the site.
