Tips for Birding

Parking - Can be challenging along M Street NW which runs directly below the Whitehurst Freeway NW. 

Birding - This park is about 0.4 miles in length, however most species can be seen from a short walk within the park due to sightlines. Birders should check the water, trees/plants in the park, as well as being aware of flyovers overhead and up/down the river. 

Gear - Binoculars are sufficient and will allow birders to view Theodore Roosevelt Island across the Potomac River.

Birds of Interest

Purple Martin - Due to the martin houses at the park these are a fairly dependable species from mid-April through mid-August, with checklist percentages ranging from 50% to 100% in June-July. 

Notable Trails

The Capital Crescent Trail has an endpoint at the Georgetown Waterfront. 

Looking for peace of mind? You might find it in the labyrinth at the western end of the park. Labyrinths date back to ancient times. Geometric turns are meant to encourage contemplation as you slowly travel from the outer edge into the center.
